The central player of the story, Hughie Erskine knows that a begger-man to be poor,so should give him money.
But the man wasn't begger, he is infact Europe's wealthiest socialist who has commissioned an artist to paint his portrait with rags.
This story basically focus on the perception of class,beauty, wealth and generosity.
