The given equation is (k + 1)x2 + 2(k + 3)x + (k + 8) = 0

This equation has equal roots if the discriminant of this equation is zero.

∴ [2(k + 3)]2 - 4(k + 1) (k + 8) = 0

⇒ 4(k2 + 6k + 9) - 4(k2 + 9k + 8) = 0

⇒ 4[(k2 + 6k + 9) - (k2 + 9k + 8)] = 0

⇒ 4 (-3k + 1) = 0

k=1/3

Thus,for k=1/3 equation (k+ Ip+2(k+3x+(t+8)-0 has equal roots.

Hope you got the answer.
