Here is the answer
________________________
K=3+A______________(1)
six years ago
K-6=4(A-6)
K-6=4A-24
24-6=4A-K=4A-(3+A) ___substituting from (1)
18=3A-3
21/3=A
A=7

therefore
A=7
K=10

present age of a = x
present age of k= x+3

6 years ago
age of a = (x-6)
age of k = 4(x-6)

age of k 6 years ago can also be described as (x+3)-6

therefore
(x+3)-6 = 4(x-6)
x-3 = 4x-24
3x = 21
x = 7

present age of a is 7 yrs and that of k is 10 yrs.

hope it helps!
