K,L,M,N are the  shells in the sommer feld atomic model. k shell is as circular orbit because while retaining bohr's circular orbit sommerfeld added more elliptical orbits such that nucleus of the atom is one of the principal fociof these elliptical orbits periodic motion under the influence ofa central force that is bohr's circular orbit.
