Features of Black Soil are as follows :-

• It is fine textured and clayey in nature.

• It has high amounts of lime, iron, magnesium and generally low quantities of phosphorus, nitrogen and organic material.

• It has upto 50% clay content and therefore it is highly retentive of water. Because of high clay content, these soil expands when wet and become hard to plough through. During the dry season, these soil shrink and develop big cracks which helps in circulation of air.

• This soil is extremely fertile in most of the places where it found.

• It is black in colour since it is formed from weathered lava rocks.
