कौन-सी गैस ओजोन परत के अवक्षय के लिए उत्तरदायी है?

ओजोन मण्डल समताप मण्डल का अंग माना जाता है । ओजोन पृथ्वी से 15 से 35 किलोमीटर ऊंचाई के बीच  फैली हुई्  मिलती है। वायुमण्डल की ओजोन परत सूर्य की पैराबेगनी किरणों को पृथ्वी पर आने से रोकती है। क्लोरोफलोरो कार्बन या सीएफसी इसके अपक्षय के लिये मुख्यतः उत्तरदायी है। इसके अतिरिक्त सल्फरडाई आक्साइड और कार्बनडाई आक्साइड भी उतरदायी है।

यदि ओजोन परत का अपक्षय होता है तो सूर्य की पैराबेगनी किरणों से प्रभाव से पृथ्वी का तापमान इतना बढ जायेगा कि धरातल पर जीवों का अस्तित्व खतरे में पड़ जायेगा।

It prevents the harmful UV rays of the sun from entering into the atmosphere and reaching the earth's surface.

Gases such as Chloro fluoro Carbons or CFCs are responsible for depletion of this ozone layer, resulting in increased UV ray transmission on the earth's surface.
