Mahatma Gandhi’s full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, whose father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi, and his mother’s name was Putlibai Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was a great freedom fighter who, like a nationalist leader, had led the people of India against British rule.
Gandhiji was born on 2 October 1869 in a place called Porbandar in Kathiawar district of Gujarat state, but he died on 30 January 1948 at a prayer meeting of Birla Mandir, Delhi. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was shot dead by Hindu activist Nathuram Godse for which he was sentenced to death by the Government of India. In 1948 Rabindranath Tagore named him another “martyr of the nation”.
