"Krishnaval" is known as onion.

• Some say that onion was called "Krishnaval" in Sanskrit. however, the word 'krishnaval' is not in usage nowadays.

• In South India, especially in rural areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, onions are still known as Krishnaval.

• When the onion is cut vertically, it is cut in the shape of a conch shell. At the same time, when it is cut crosswise, it is cut in the shape of a circle.

• Onion is called 'krishnaval' because of its shapes of conch shell and chakra. Both are weapons of the Lord Shri Krishna.

• Chakra is also meant valaya. The word 'krishnaval' is formed by mixing two words of 'Krishna' and 'valaya'.
