Units Purchased =   89.3 , total gain = 8,035.7  Rs  and Rate of return  = 26.4 %

Step-by-step explanation:

invested Rs 50000 on mutual fund on 5th March 2011

NAV = 560

Number Of Shares / Units Purchased =  50000/560 =    5000/56  = 625/7

= 89.3

redeemed units on 18th October 2011 when NAV was 650

Selling Price = 650 * 625/7   = 406250/7

Return / Gain  = 406250/7 - 50000  =  56250/7  Rs

= 8,035.7  Rs

Time = 26 + 30 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 31 + 30 + 13 =  222 Days

Rate of return  = R

56250/7  = 50000 * R  * (222/365)/100

=> R = 26.4 %  Per Annum
