WASTE DISPOSAL
It is often seen that household garbage, including iron cans, paper, plastic, glass pieces such as organic matter or leftover food, animal bones, vegetable peels, etc. are thrown in such open places. Areas where people raise milch animals, poultry or other animals. The feces of these animals also pollute the atmosphere there.
The environment is dirty due to non-performance of waste. In addition to deodorant, germs also grow in it which are the cause of various diseases. Mosquitoes, flies and mice also thrive at such places. Therefore, garbage lying in the house, outside the house or in settlements can cause severe ill effects for the health of the community.
Waste disposal in rural areas
Municipal facilities are not available in the village. Therefore, following methods can be adopted for small scale execution of garbage:
1. Composting
2. Vermiculture
(A) Composting: This is the process by which household waste such as grass, leaves, leftovers, cow dung etc. are used in making manure.
Dig a pit to prepare cow dung and garbage. The size of the pit should be according to the amount of garbage and available space.
Typically, for a small rural family, a pit of 1 meter long and 1 meter wide and 0.8 meter deep should be dug. Keep the top of the pit one and a half or two feet above the ground level. By doing this, rain water will not enter.
In the pit, domestic agriculture, garbage and dung are to be buried. The compost is ready within about six months. Compost should be drained from the pit and covered with soil. It can be used for farming.
Benefits of composting:
1. The extra weeds found in the field are destroyed due to heat.
2. Litter-waste prevents pollution.
3. Good manure is prepared from waste which is helpful in increasing the yield of the field.
(B) Vermiculture: It is a process of composting waste. In this, manure is prepared by earthworms from organic decomposition waste like vegetable peel, leaves, grass, leftover food etc.
A layer of organic decomposition waste is laid in a wooden box or earthen pit and leaves some earthworms on top of it. Garbage is poured over it and water is sprayed to retain wetness. After some time it turns into very good manure.
Dung, domestic waste and agricultural waste are not fully utilized in rural areas. Therefore, it is necessary to inform the villagers about the production of manure from the waste and the pollution of the village should be stopped. Along with this, the waste can also be utilized properly.
Garbage Disposal in Urban Area:
Proper disposal of garbage disposal in cities is done by the municipality. If this work is not going smoothly, inform the municipality and pressurize them to transfer the garbage from the declared site to the municipal collection center from where it can be disposed of properly.
