There are two meanings for the word kaint but in Punjabi we call it Ghaint and in Hindi people use to say kaint but actual word is ghaint. It is the most used word in Punjabi for telling someone pretty, good-looking and it also means number ‘1’.

Kaint or Ghant comes from word “Ghanta/Kainta, which means in English “Hour”. Now, the Ghant word was shortened by Punjabis from Ghanta or Kainta in northern India during British Raj to Kaint/Ghant. So, when the wall clocks embarked in india introduced by Great Britain in 1800s, placed on landmarks and prominent buildings such as Ghanta/Kainta Ghars (house of hour) churches, prominent government buildings etc., it loudly chimed every hour and everyone in the vicinity or neighborhood looked at it with awe or got strikingly alerted by it. Hence, Kaint or Ghant depicts worth the attention or a look or a second look because of its blaring and attractive noise.

Simple Conclusion: anything which attracts or alerts someone strikingly is Kaint or Ghant in Punjabi. Remember, Punjabi is a very logical, simple and sweet language and it is not a very precise, refined, formal or sophisticated language like English, French, German, Arabic, or Farsi…

have a great day ahead ☺☺
