Allotropes of carbon are - d) all of above

  • Allotropes refers to different forms in which element exists.

  • Buckminsterfullerene or C-60 is the arrangement of carbon in the form of sphere. It forms fused ring and involved hexagons and pentagons. Twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons participate in its formation.

  • Graphite has layered structure and hence forms sheets. Each carbon atom bonds with three other carbon atoms in this structure.

  • Diamond has each carbon bond to four other carbon atoms. It forms tetrahedron structure and the valence electrons of diamond are localized.
