Kangaroo Rat likes dry climate so they adapt in desert climate. They have the adaptation to survive without drinking any water relying only on their dietry moisture.
Sandgrouse are also desert birds and like dry climate. Their diet is dry seeds so they desperately need fresh water that's why they have specially adapted feathers which can absorb water.

Kangaroo rat has evolved to perfectly adapt to desert life. They have long tails and big hind feet with four toes with which they can jump over big distances. They can survive on seed diet without even drinking
water and have remarkable
hearing ability as they can detect silent sound of an approaching owl also.
Sand Grouse have a dense layer that creates an insulation layer protecting it from extreme heat and cold. The belly feathers can absorb large amount of and even retain it for a longer time. This allows male birds to carry water for their chicks over longer distances.
