th of the cloth is increased by 50 metre price will remain same then,

(x+50)(y-2)=2000

xy+50y-2x-100=2000

2000+50y-2x-100=2000  [ xy=2000 from (i) ]

2x-50y=-100

x-25y=-50 [ divided above equation from 2]

\frac{2000}{y} -25y=-50  [ value of x taken from (i) ]

2000-25y^{2} =-50y

25y^{2} -50y-2000=0

y^{2} -2y-80=0

y^{2} -10y+8y-80=0 [Splitting the middle term]

y(y-10)+8(y-10)=0

(y-10)(y+8)=0

y=-8 or y=10

Since y denotes the price of the clothe per metre, therefore it can't be negative.

Now, from equation (i)

x   y=2000

x(10)=2000

x=200

Therefore the price of the cloth is 10 rupees per metre and length is 200 metre.
