Solution :

Let marked price of the article be x, rebate = 10%, S.T. = 20%.
Selling Price = x – 10% of x = 9x/10.
S.T. 20% of 9x/10 = 9x/50,
Price including S.T. = 9x/10 + 9x/50 = 54x/50.
As per question, 54x/50 = 5400 => x = 5000,
Hence, marked price = Rs5,000.

The marked price of the article is Rs.5000.

Given:

Purchase an article for Rs.5400.

10% rebate and 20% sales tax.

To Find:

The marked price of the article.

Solution:

Here, we have the price of the purchase Rs.5400

let's suppose that the marked price is x.

now, the rebate on the marked price is 10\%

so, S.P=x-\frac{10}{100}

           =\frac{90x}{100}=\frac{9x}{10}

we have given, the sales tax =20\%

now, sales tax =(\frac{20}{100}\times \frac{9x}{10})

                        =\frac{9x}{50}

here, by including the selling price and sales tax =\frac{9x}{10}+\frac{9x}{50}

we get,

=\frac{45x +9x}{50}

=\frac{54x}{50}

now, we get

\frac{54x}{50}=5400

here,

x=\frac{5400\times 50}{54} \\x=Rs.5000

Hence, the marked price of the article is Rs.5000.
