Karin bought 25 lb of peaches at $4.00/lb and 15 lb of apples at $2.00/lb. If she wanted to buy 10 more pounds of another kind of fruit to make the average price per pound equal to $3.50, what price should she pay for the additional 10 lb?

Answer:

$4.50/lb

Step-by-step explanation:

Price of peaches =

25lb @ $4.00/lb => 25 × 4 = $100

Now,

Price of apples =

15lb @ $2.00/lb => 15 × 2 = $30

Now,

She wants the overall rate of all the fruits @ $3.50/lb

&

She wants to buy 10lb of another fruit.

So total quality of fruits = 25+ 15 + 10 = 50lb

So required rate @ $3.50/lb = 50 × 3.50 = $175

& rate of first two types of fruits is $100 & $30

So rate of third type of fruit must be =

175 - (100 + 30) = 175 - 130 = $45

But this $45 is the rate for 10lb fruit

So per pound rate =

45/10 = $4.50/lb
