The experiment conducted by Landsteiner resulted in the understanding of A, B, AB, and O blood groups.
He found that there are components in the blood, that is, antigens and antibodies, which stimulate gathering of red blood cells when the red cells of one kind are added with that of the second kind. He identified three groups named as A, B and O on the basis of the reactions taking place between them. The fourth group, that is, AB was determined a year after by some other research team.
