Let the number be 'y'

Then, Four times y = 4*y = 4y

Four times a number 'y' equals to the number increased by 15 -

⇒ 4y = y + 15

The required equation is 4y = y + 15

Now, solving this equation and finding the value of y

⇒ 4y = y + 15

⇒ 4y - y = 15

⇒ 3y = 15

⇒ y = 15/3

⇒ y = 5

So, the value of y is 5
