According to the question :

Let the number be ' x '

Multiplying it with 5 & Adding 8,

↦x × 5 + 8 ...... [ 1 st Eq ]

Subtracting it from 20,

↦20 - x ...... [ 2 nd Eq ]

( 1 st Equation = 2 nd Equation )

Solving :

⟹ x × 5 + 8 = 20 - x

⟹ 5x + 8 = 20 - x

⟹ 5x + x = 20 - 8

⟹ 6x = 12

⟹ x = 12 / 6

⟹ x = 2

Verification :

Substituting ' x ' value,

⟹ x × 5 + 8 = 20 - x

⟹ 2 × 5 + 8 = 20 - 2

⟹ 10 + 8 = 20 - 2

⟹ 18 = 18
