Rhinos are large mammals which weigh in at one tonne and above. They can be very dangerous and are known to attack without any provocation. Hence extreme caution has to be exercised, when conducting any kind of study on such creatures, in the wild or in captivity.

In this case, Katherine can rely on research data that is already available with institutions such as the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, the International Rhino Foundation, the National Geographic etc.

She may also observe these magnificent creatures in the wild, at one of the several National Parks in Africa or those that are in captivity.

The mother rhinocereous only gives birth to a single calf which will be born after 18 months.

The calf will stay close to the mother for protection and food and will stay with the mother for up to three years.

Then the mother will drive the calf off to live on its own.
