Despite removing all leaves from a balsam plant, it survives and starts sprouting again because, it has a green stem which contains chloroplast which helps in the process of photosynthesis which results in it growing back.
It also has a relatively thick stem for a shrub that can store nutrients and come in use later on during worse case scenarios where all it's leaves get blown or removed off.
