We know that coal and petroleum are fossil fuels.It required the dead organisms millions of years to get converted into these fuels.On the other hand the known reserves of these will last only a few hundred years.Hence they should be used judiciously to ensure their availability for a longer period of time.  Some alternative sources of energy are wind energy,solar energy and thermal energy.

❱ It avoids the pollution of air caused by combustion of coal and petroleum the alternative sources of energy could be those that are renewable and non polluting.

❱ These include fuels like solar energy, geothermal energy, Hydro power & nuclear power.
