Solution :-

Given that

Total sum of the money = $3,600.00 =$3600

The ratio of the shares of his three sons

= 2:3:4

Let they be $ 2X , $ 3X and $ 4X

The sum of the shares

= 2X+3X+4X = $ 9X

According to the given problem

9X = 3600

=> X = 3600/9

=> X = 400

The value of X = $ 400

The smallest Share = $ 2X

= $ 2×400

=>$ 800

Short-cut:-

Smallest share parts = 2

Total parts = 2+3+4 = 9

Total money = $ 3600.00 = $ 3600

The smallest share

= (smallest share parts / total parts )×Total money

= (2/9)×3600

= 2×400

= $ 800
