Given : Kevin’s work to represent 27 on a number line is shown. In the number line, arc DQ is drawn using OD as the radius.

Tina and Ajay made following statements.Tina: OA = 5 units, AB = BD = 1 unitAjay: OB = 26 units and AB = 1 unit.

To Find :  Who is correct

Solution:

OA = 5 units

AB  = 1 unit

OB² = OA² + AB²    using Pythagoras theorem

=> OB² = 5² + 1²

=> OB² = 25+ 1

=> OB² = 26

=> OB = √26  units

OD² = OB² + BD²

=> OD² =26 +1

=> OD² =27

=> OD = √27

OD = OQ  as DQ is arc  with center O

Hence OA = 5 units , AB  = 1 unit , BD = 1 units  id correct

so Tina  is correct

OB = √26  units not 26 units  hence Ajay is not correct

Tina  is correct

Answer:

tina is correct

Step-by-step explanation:

OA = 5 units

AB  = 1 unit

OB² = OA² + AB²    using Pythagoras theorem

=> OB² = 5² + 1²

=> OB² = 25+ 1

=> OB² = 26

=> OB = √26  units

OD² = OB² + BD²

=> OD² =26 +1

=> OD² =27

=> OD = √27

OD = OQ  as DQ is arc  with center O

Hence OA = 5 units , AB  = 1 unit , BD = 1 units  id correct

so Tina  is correct

OB = √26  units not 26 units  hence Ajay is not correct

Tina  is correct
