Let ages be 'x'
kevin = x and mother = 3x
Then, it is given 6 years ago. so,
Kevin's age=(x-6) years
Mother's age=(3x-6) years
Now equation formation:
(x-6)×5 = 3x-6
⇒5x-30 = 3x-6
⇒2x = 24
⇒x = 12
kevin age is 'x'= 12 years
mother's age is 3x = 3 x 12.
                              = 36 years

Let kevin age is x
and mother age is 3x

according to question it is given 6 years ago, then

(x - 6) x 5 = 3x - 6

=> 5x - 30 = 3x - 6

=> 5x - 3x = -6 + 30

=> 2x = 24

=> x = 24/2

=> x = 12

so, kevin's age is x = 12 years

and mother's age is 3x = 3 x 12 = 36 years.
