Khadar is new alluvial soil. It is found near the banks of a river and is replenished every year by flooding and deposition of sediments. Since it is replenished annually with sediments, it is very fertile, and ideal for growing rice and wheat. This soil is fine grained and light in colour.
Bhangar is old alluvial soil. It is found away from the river and it is not replenished every year. It is not fertile. The soil contains calcareous and rocky deposits called Kankar. The soil is dark in colour.
