SOLUTION

  • Kiara is 5 years younger than Ruhi.

  • Four years later, Ruhi will be twice as old as Kiara.

TO DETERMINE

Their present ages.

EVALUATION

Let present age of Ruhi = x

Since Kiara is 5 years younger than Ruhi

Then present age of Kiara = x - 5

Now Four years later

Age of Ruhi = x + 4 and

Age of Kiara = x - 5 + 4 = x - 1

Now it is given that Four years later, Ruhi will be twice as old as Kiara

So by the given condition

x + 4 = 2(x-1)

 \implies \sf{x + 4 = 2x - 2}

 \implies \sf{2x  - x=   4 + 2}

 \implies \sf{x=   6}

Present age of Ruhi = 6 years and present age of Kiara = 1 years

Kiara is 5 years younger than Ruhi.

Four years later, Ruhi will be twice as old as Kiara.

TO DETERMINE

Their present ages.

EVALUATION

Let present age of Ruhi = x

Since Kiara is 5 years younger than Ruhi

Then present age of Kiara = x - 5

Now Four years later

Age of Ruhi = x + 4 and

Age of Kiara = x - 5 + 4 = x - 1

Now it is given that Four years later, Ruhi will be twice as old as Kiara

So by the given condition

x + 4 = 2(x-1)

\implies \sf{x + 4 = 2x - 2}⟹x+4=2x−2

\implies \sf{2x - x= 4 + 2}⟹2x−x=4+2

\implies \sf{x= 6}⟹x=6

Present age of Ruhi = 6 years and present age of Kiara = 1 years
