• 2 years ago, Kim was three times as old as Timothy.

To find :- Age of kim two years ago .

Solution :-

Let, age of Kim be x & age of Timothy be y.

{According to given}

→ x = 2y + 6 ....( 1 )

→ x - 2 = 3y ....( 2 )

Put value of x {from eq. ( 1 )} in eq. ( 2 )

→ 2y + 6 - 2 = 3y

→ 2y + 4 = 3y

→ 2y - 3y = - 4

→ - y = - 4

→ y = 4 years

Put value of y in eq. ( 2 )

→ x - 2 = 3y

→ x - 2 = 3×4

→ x - 2 = 12

→ x = 12 + 2

→ x = 14 years

Hence, 2 years ago kim was 14 years old.
