i)Relying too much on traditional and indigenous beliefs on farming.

ii) Excessive use of synthetic fertilizer and pesticides.

2) Due to Excessive use of chemical fertilizer's and pesticides it has degraded the quality of the soil and also it's fertility. after all the plants take nutrients and minerals from the soil which is being spoilt by excessive use of chemical fertilizer's and pesticides. As the quality of soil reduces mang Ruben has to go on adding artificial nutrients and minerals in the form of chemical fertilizers which will further detoriate the soil. And as the soil quality goes on degrading there will be a decline in harvest.

3) If I would be in the place of Mang Ruben I would have used natural fertilizers such as Cow dung and vermicompost in the place of chemical fertilizers.
