Plankton includes plants and animals that float along at the mercy of the sea's tides and currents. There are two types of plankton: tiny plants--called phytoplankton, and weak-swimming animals--called zooplankton.

The phenomenon responsible for finding maximum concentration of toxins/ harmful chemicals in the organisms occupying the highest trophic level in the food chain such as humans  is called biological magnification. Biological magnification refers to the increase in the concentration of a toxicant at successive trophic levels. When the toxic substance or pollutant cannot be excreted or metabolised by an organism, it is passed on to the next trophic level. In this way, the concentration of the toxins keeps increasing at each successive trophic level through biological magnification

Since humans occupy the top most level in any food chain, so there are chances of accumulating maximum concentration of harmful chemicals such as pesticides in our body.
