Answer:

The total kinetic energy is the sum of the two. Because the momenta are "equal but opposite", the sum of momenta is zero. ... ... Since, negetive mass doesn't exist, the velocity should be zero and thus, the object must be at rest.

Kinetic Energy is zero when momentum in zero, why ?

➜ Kinetic Energy is the energy which an object have while moving or say in state of motion. Kinetic energy is denoted by K.E.

  • K.E = ½mv²

Whereas, momentum is defined as product of mass and velocity. It is denoted by p.

  • p = mv

If momentum (p) is zero ,then Kinetic energy will be also zero because , K.E = p²/2m . When kinetic energy is zero momentum will be also zero .

let Kinetic Energy (K.E) = 0 Joules

⇒K.E = p²/2m

⇒ 0 = p²/2m

⇒p² = 0 * 2m

⇒p² = 0

⇒ p = 0 kgm/s
