Explanation:

Given Kinetic energy of the particle is increased by a 100% b 1% find the percentage change in momentum

  • Given If kinetic energy is increased by 100% , so change will be
  • K.E’ = K.E + 100% K.E
  • K.E’ = K.E + 1 K.E
  • So K.E’ = 2 K.E
  • We know that kinetic energy increases as the square of momentum.
  • So K.E = p^2 / 2m, we get
  • P’^2 / 2m = 2. P^2 / 2m
  • P’^2 = 2 P^2
  • P’ = √2P^2
  • P’ = 1.414 P
  • Therefore percentage change in momentum = P’ – P / P x 100
  •                                                                       = 1.414 P – P / P x 100 %
  •                                                                       = 0.41 x 100
  •                                                                       41 %

Hence percentage change in momentum will be 41%
