The kinetics of electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate on Pt(1 1 0) in perchloric acid was studied with cyclic voltammetry at a very low sweep rate of 1 mV s−1, where pseudo-steady state condition was assumed to be achieved at each electrode potential. Stationary current–potential curves in perchloric acid in the absence of nitrate showed two peaks at 0.13 V and 0.23 V (RHE) in the so-called adsorbed hydrogen region.
