Kitchen is a poem written by Vimala where she expresses her feeling about middle-class women being confined to the kitchen and how their life is entirely spent slogging in this place. Vimala's poem is about the tough, uneasy and enfeebling responsibility that is thrust on a wife with much ruthlessness.
The poet is bitter with this practice and system and she fervently argues that it must be rebuked equally callously. It is agonizing that the name on pans and pots must be the man's middle-class women who have been confined to the kitchen for decades. Their life is completely exhausted in the daily chores of washing and cooking.
