Why does Kolkata receives moderate rain in April and May?

Hello,

The capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata is situated on the lower ganga valley. The precipitation diminishes westward as the distance increase from the sea. South bengal also receives less rainfall than north bengal due to changes in elevations.

Particularly during Summer (Pre- Monsoon) season as mentioned above April and May the city of joy experience moderate rainfall. Because the whole indian sub continent is heating overtime during this period some cyclonic circulation or low pressure areas are formed over the northern and western parts of the regions which influences the pre-monsoonal(Kal Baishakhi) activities over kolkata. Kolkata sometimes braces with moderate to heavy thunderstorms and squall as well. Due to high convection and moisture comes form open sea(Bey of Bengal), causes massive thunderstorms cloud formation during late afternoon hours to night.

After winter Kolkata and south bengal experience rapid increase in temperature during March, April and May. Due to comparative cooling and heating process the land gets heated faster than the ocean. Bay of Bengal remains comparatively cooler during March and April. So the moisture comes from the bay are not enough to saturate the air. When the evaporation increases in bay and also when the land got too hot enough some thunder clouds form over chattisgarh and Jharkhand region and travel towards east direction (Bangladesh) due to frontal collision. And eventually we get relief from scorching heat of summer here. The temperature drops few digit below.

Later the land gets warm again due to direct insolation of sun and heat wave condition persist too.

Due too no system or less system formation comparatively from monsoon season Kolkata experience less or moderate amount of rainfall specifically over this two months of period.
