The island of Krakatoa is located in Indonesia. The volcano on the island started to erupt on 26 August 1883, peaking on August 27. 70% of the island was destroyed & collapsed into a caldera. The eruption was one of the most violent events in Earth history. Just over 36400 people died and ash particles from the eruption were propelled up into the atmosphere, causing temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere to drop by nearly 1.5 °C. Weather patterns were disrupted until 1888 when temperatures slowly started returning to normal
