Krem Syndai (also known as Jogindra Cave)
This small (400m) yet famous cave is situated in the historic village
of Syndai, Jaintia Hills.
The cave entrance is of stooping height but once inside, the
passage immediately opens up into impressive proportions, of 25m
or more high and 30m wide. The cave contains some impressive
calcite formations in the form of stalactites, stalagmites and a lot of
flowstone, which are sadly blackened by the kerosene bamboo
torches used by the local people. The cave is revered by Hindu
sadhus, who come from the plains during the Hindu festival of
Shivaratri.
Close to Krem Syndai is another impressive cave known as Krem
Rupasor or Krem Shuki. It is a very dry cave with a total length
of 970m.
The cave entrance lies in a small depression, a few minutes walk
down the slope from behind the village school building. Sliding
down the smallish entrance a chamber is met containing some large
stalactites, stalagmites and beautifully carved columns. The way on
from the chamber is up a calcite slope on the left and through a
hole at roof level leading to a passage 10m high by 8m wide. A little (make a presentation for me) please
