Complete Question :- Kristian and Stephanie share some money in the ratio 3 : 2. Kristian receives $72 .
To Find :-
1) Work out how much Stephanie receives.
2) Kristian spends the 45% of his $72 on a computer game. Calculate the price of the computer game.
3) Kristian also buys a meal for $8.40; calculate the fraction of the $72 Kristian has left after buying the computer game and the meal ?
Solution :-
(1)
given that,
→ Kristen share : Stephanie share = 3 : 2
So, let us assume that, kristen share is equal to $ 3x and Stephanie share is equal to $ 2x .
also given that,
→ Kristen receives = $ 72
So,
→ 3x = 72
dividing both sides by 3,
→ x = 24
then,
→ Stephanie receives = $ 2x = 2 × 24 = $ 48 (Ans.)
(2)
→ Kristian spends on computer game = 45% of his $ 72 .
So,
→ Price of the computer game = (45 × 72)/100 = $ 32.40 (Ans.)
(3)
→ Kristian buys a meal for = $ 8.40
So,
→ Total amount spend by Kristian = Price of the computer game + meal price = 32.40 + 8.40 = $ 40.80
then,
→ Total amount left with kristian = Total amount Kristen receives - Total amount spend by Kristian = 72 - 40.80 = $ 31.20
therefore,
→ Required fraction = Total amount left with kristian / Total amount Kristen receives
→ Required fraction = 31.20 / 72
→ Required fraction = 3120/7200
→ Required fraction = 312/720
→ Required fraction = 39/90 { dividing numerator and denominator by 8 }
→ Required fraction = 13/30 { dividing numerator and denominator by 3 }
hence, the fraction of the $72 kristen has left is equal to 13/30 .
