Kunal purchased a notebook for ₹. 19.75 , a pencil for ₹. 3.85 and a pen for ₹. 8.35 from a book shop. He gave a 50 - rupee note to the shopkeeper. What amount did he get back ?

total cost = notebook + pencil + pen

19.75 + 3.85 + 8.35 = 31.95

amount left = 50 - 31.95 =18.05 is the answer.

we need to subtract sum of purchased things from Rs 50.

sum of cost  notebook , pencil , pen : -

= Rs 19.75 + Rs 3.85 + Rs 8.35.

= Rs 31.95.

∴ Rs 50 - Rs 31.95

= Rs 18.0s

∴ the shop keeper have to give Rs 18.5
