Originally NABARD was a Deparment of RBI known Agricurtural Refinance Corporation,then renamed as Agricultural Refinance and Development Corporation and Finally an institution as a Subsidiary (50% share) named as National Bank for Agriculture and Development (NABARD) as an autonomous institution was created and separated from RBI. Subsequently with enormous increase in the level of existing and addition of several new activities, the Govenment of India fully took over the NABARD shares and the embelical cord between RBI and NABARD was broken. Nevertheless along with GOI’s Budgetary support RBI continues to provide large funds to NABARD to meet the shortfall in their Direct lending for Developmet Programmes and Refinance activities to the Agricultural and Cooperative Sectors
