The answer is 4500 Rs

Given: Total investment of A and B = 12500

at end of the B withdraw Rs 500 from investment

B got profit of Rs. 4250 out of total profit 12,250 Rs

To find: Investment of B

Solution: let a and b be the investments of A and B

From data total investment a+b = 12500

A kept investment for entire year

B kept his investment for 6 months and withdraw 500 for rest of 6 months

then Ratio of profit

= A's investment × 12 months : B's investment × 6 months

= a × 12 : b × 6 + (b-500) × 6

= 12 a : 6b + 6b - 3000

= 12 a : 12b - 3000

= a : b - 250 [ divided by 12 ]

From given data B got Rs.4250 out of total profit 12,250 Rs

⇒ A's profit = 12250 - 4250 = 8000

⇒ Ratio of profit = 8000 : 4250   (keep its as it is )

⇒ a : b - 250 = 8000 : 4250

From above calculations

b - 250 = 4250

b = 4500

Therefore, B's investment = 4500
