L-MOTION AND MEASUREMENT OF DISTANCES I DO AND I UNDERSTAND…..

Children do you know that the festival of ‘Rakhi’ is just around the corner and just like you all Priya is also

excited and this time she wants to tie her brother a handmade rakhi.

But she needs your help!

She wants to decorate the car and make the boundary of the car in her rakhi with a ribbon. But she doesn’t

know how much thread to get from the market.

Refer to the picture given below

Or

Figure 11.11 on page 137 of your book

Q1: Can you guess the length of ribbon that she needs to buy? ____________________________Q2: Now take a scale and try to measure the perimeter of the car(outline of the shape). Could you do it

easily? ___________________________________

Q3: What other material can we use instead to measure its perimeter? ____________________________

Yes , you are right we can use a thread and a scale( to measure the length of thread later) to find the

perimeter.

PROCEDURE--Take a thread and make a knot at one of its end. Move the thread along the boundary

of the car with the help of your fingers and thumb.

Then measure the length of the thread with the help of a scale.

OBSERVATION- Priya should buy ________________ cm of the ribbon from the market to make the outline

of her car.

RESULT-- It is _______________________ to find the length of a curved line/surface with a scale. We

can use a thread and a scale for this purpose.
