The simplest answer is to get one of the more recent Synology media servers. I would suggest the 418 for example: DS418 | Synology Inc.
I have a few Synologies, and this one seems to be the best trade-off. Note that most of the older Synologies don’t have a CPU powerful enough to run a media server, so be careful which you get.
Then you use a computer or iPhone or iPad (etc.) to set up the server, and you can install Plex Server on it to serve up the media! (The hardware acceleration is supported by the Plex Server.)
