ZYGOTENE is the 2nd stage in prophase - I of meiosis.

                 

               In zygotene. homologous chromosomes start paring. This paring is called synapsis. The structure called synaptonemal complex develops to hold chromosomes in place during this paring.Each chromosomes chromatid arm divides and forms structure called bivalent or tetrad.
