a) Metacentric chromosome.

  • It appears as V - shape
  • both arms of chromatids are at equal distance from centromere.
  • centromere is centrally located.

b) Submetacentric chromosome

  • It appears as L- shape.
  • centromere is slightly shifted from centre
  • results in one arm as slightly long and other slightly short.

c) Telocentric chromosome

  • centromere is located at one end
  • which results in terminal centromere

d) Acrocentric chromosome

  • centromere is far placed from centre.
  • results in one very long arm and other very short arm.

Note:

  1. metacentric, submetacentric, telocentric shapes are observed during the chromosome movement at anaphase stage.
