2. As Hydrogen is less reactive than many metals, is a higher chance that the metal exposed can displace the Hydrogen in the acid to make new compounds.

3. These new compounds are usually brittle and thus are detrimental to the material strength and life of the metal exposed.

4. That is why most laboratory acids are corrosive in nature.
