Lactic acid production is a short term relief but has long term side effects because it affects the performance of athletes.

EXPLANATION:

Lactic acids results in the increase of acidity levels in the body. The increased acid levels result in a burning sensation in athletes and this may disrupt other metabolic processes of the body as well. This in turn may affect the overall performance of the athletes resulting in slower body movements.
