A sentence that states something  is false is called a negative sentence. Negative sentences can be created by adding the word ‘not’ after the helping or auxiliary verb.  

For example,

1. Positive sentence: David is happy person.

Negative sentence: David is not a happy person.

2.  Positive sentence: The clouds were blocking the sun’s rays.

Negative sentence: The clouds were not blocking the sun's rays.
