Lamprey also known as peteromyzon is of class Cyclostomata which comes under division Agnatgha ( lacks jaw )
- these are jawless animals and most primitive.
- they come under sub phylum vertebrata
- they have rounded/ circular mouth with suctorial funnel
- endoskeleton is made up of cartilage
- they act as ectoparasite on some fishes
- 6 - 15 pairs of gill slits
- scales and paired fins are absent
- they have cartilaginous cranium and vertebral column
- circulatory system is closed
- development of lamprey is indirect through ammocoete larva which act as connecting link between cephalochordates ( Branchiostoma / amphioxus / lancelet ) and vertebrates ( cyclostomes ).
