Land is a vital resource:

Land is a significant resource because it covers about 30 percent of the total surface area of the earth and not all sections of this tiny proportion are habitable or productive. All other resources are given by land and it is on land that structures and sectors are made.

Land is home for all living and non living organisms such as plant and animal species, including humans.

Humans are biggest threat to natural resources for the following reasons:

  • Deforestation has induced degradation.
  • Over-grazing in locations such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, etc. causes land degradation.
  • Industrial waste in many areas of India causes water and soil pollution.
  • Using fertilizers to increase crop productivity it leads to ground water pollution.
